31 for 31: ‘Hannibal’ #TVChallenge

When NBC announced they were planning an adaptation of the Hannibal Lecter universe, I was skeptical to say the least. There had already been plenty of film versions of the novel character. And NBC’s particular record with genre shows other than Grimm …well had been just that. However Bryan Fuller – the mind behind some of your favorite canceled cult classic series – crafted a uniquely mature and devastatingly look at one of the greatest villains in film history.

NBC’s Hannibal followed Lecter’s time as a consultant for the FBI. Starring Mads Mikkelsen as the cannibalistc psychologist, he played cat-and-mouse with Hugh Darcy’s Will Graham, a fragile serial killer profiler. With a cast that also boasted Laurence Fishburne and Gillian Anderson, it’s hands down NBC’s best series since The West Wing.

If you missed out, all three seasons are available for purchase. And there’s still hope our a finale film as the series ended with a cliff-of-a-hanger in season three.
